Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all educations institutions in India have been closed since the lockdown. Luckily, it was the time of summer holidays and now many schools and colleges have decided to conduct online classes for the children so that they cannot miss their regular classes.
But, these online classes need the internet, laptop, or mobile phone or at least a TV for a student to study. Rich and middle-class people manage to procure these things but the poor people struggle to attend the classes.
This is all about a 14-year-old student, a girl, allegedly committed suicide in Malappuram in Kerala and her parents alleged that she was disturbed as she could not attend online classes since the family did not have either a TV or smartphone.
Her parents said though they had a small TV, it was under repair for the last three months. The repair was delayed because the family head, a Dalit farmhand, was without work in the last three months due to lockdown. The girl who was is very good at studies got disturbed and set herself on fire and the police recovered a suicide note at the spot.
State Education Minister C Raveendranath has sought a report from the district education officer.
